This Week at Van Allen

Friday, parents are kindly invited to attend our all-school sing along starting at 2:00, as this is a wonderful way to end the first semester, and during the concert, we will also share more information about the VA winter reading program.      DSCF1700

Friday is Holiday Luncheon, a Van Allen tradition where the food team prepares a delicious turkey meal, PTA creates a very festive atmosphere for the meal, and the Middle School Band provides music during the meal, As this is a special meal for our students, can we ask our students to wear festive clothes for this special occasion?

And Thursday afternoon, our students will be bringing home a bag of books to read during the break. A student’s collection of books is comprised of library books and classroom books. Parents are requDSCF1702ested to sign the reading contract and return the contract with students, but most important, encourage and guide your child to engage in reading during our two -week break.

For the past year and half, we have been supporting our Grade 2-5 students with their reading development by offering students the opportunity to read to adults in a pro
gram we call “Paired-Reading”.

Our Paired Reading Volunteers work with four-five students during an hour block of time. The process starts with the student and adult reading together than the student, using a predetermined signal, will start reading independently.

We would like to request your consideration to provide reading support to our students from Tuesday to Friday for approximately one hour per week by volunteering to be a paired reader.
