Developing Reading Fluency

We have been working VERY hard the last month on our reading fluency and reading with expression. We have been discussing what fluency is and how important it is to our understanding of what we read. We learned that Fluency is: Rate- not reading too fast or too slow, Accuracy- reading the words correctly, Expression- reading with feeling so we don’t sound like robots, and following punctuation as we read.Blogphoto1

My 4th grade class decided after last week’s Treasure’s unit, they wanted to work on a play to perform for the kindergarten class. The students worked hard in class and at home to not only learn their parts but be able to read them with expression and truly entertain their audience!

We had a great time working on “Bob the Goofy Reindeer” and performing it for our wonderful Kindergarten friends in Mrs. Snyder’s class!
