Van Allen Update for the Week of May 11

GDSCF2008rade Three students creating their summer reading boxes, a summer reading project for JK to Grade Three students.

Dear Parents:

As the end of year fast approaches, we do have more information to share. First, we would like to congratulate Mrs. Cindy Sperfslage, who will be retiring at the end of this year, after, twenty-five years working in the District. She will be greatly missed, as her early morning phone support, contacting parents to check on DSCF2011students’ status, and lunchtime support will leave a void, which we will all feel, as this position will not be replaced, so the community and office will need to adapt to the lessened support and the new reality once school starts in the fall.

Second, we will continue to collect students’ summer school enrollment forms as registration ends May 20.

Next year, our first day of school is August 24, and the school day will start    at 8:00 and end at approximately 3:22. Extending the school day provides more instructional time, allows for a more relaxed time frame for lunch, allows our team the time to address a deficiency in teaching science, and offers time to possibly introduce Spanish as a language program.

Third, Monday, May 18 is not a late start, so the bell will ring at 8:15, but on Wednesday, our school day ends at 11:30. Report cards will be mailed home again this year.  DSCF2009

Enjoy the week,

Don LeBlanc
