Enrichment and P.L.U.S. classes have now fully begun for the 2015-2016 school year. There is often a misconception that students who are achieving at or above grade level do not need anything special or different than the regular grade curriculum because they are already doing “just fine”. In fact, very able learners need academic instruction that allows them to grow in their skills and knowledge just as all learners do. In order to do this, they often need to be allowed to work at a leve that does indeed stretch their minds.
Our regular grade-level teachers do a terrific job of differentiating their instruction so the various levels of learners can work on curriculum that fits their academic needs. Enrichment and P.L.U.S. classes assist the teachers in their effort to provide instruction that is at an appropriate level for those students who learn at a faster rate or have already mastered skills that are currently being taught in their respective grade levels.
These additional classes push students to work on more difficult problems, to apply their already learned content and skills to new and different problems, to be critical thinkers and creative problem solvers, to push themselves to go beyond their comfort level in order to achieve at their highest potential, to learn how to persevere and work through tasks when it does become difficult for them, and to stretch their minds in order to grow and learn beyond what they already know.
