This Week at Van Allen

We have a very active week planned for the next few days, as we celebrate Homecoming with an array of activities. We have added our daily list of activities to the bottom of this note.

Tuesday, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department joining us for a fire-safety presentation And we strive to practice good safety habits her at school, as we host regular fire drills, and we have established locations, with the upcoming focus about fire safety, this is an opportunity time to discuss to your family’s fire plan, as this will be a topic discussed at our assembly.

Wednesday morning is “Walk and Bike to School Day promoted by the Healthy Henry County Communities. We encourage all students to join us of this special day by walking or biking to school, and for those students who ride the bus to school, we also have our morning gym walk to start off our day.

Also, this week, under the direction of Betty Hornaday, supported by IWU students, we started our after school “Success Lab” providing student additional time and support to compete their studies. In addition, each grade level stated their MTSS (Multi-Tier Systems of Support) groups, which are student groups focused on identified academic needs. This program requires teachers to identity student’s strengths and weaknesses, and based on data collection, teachers create an instructional plan to assist students close the identified gap. Our teachers deserve a special acknowledgment for this undertaking, as MTSS work requires teachers to commit a significant amount of time to prepare for this, instructional session in already an busy day.

And last, Friday October 9 is a 2:15 dismissal due to Homecoming.
