Students in Junior Kindergarten through Second Grade was introduced to Sean Covey’s book; The Seven Habits of Healthy Kids. Students focused on the First Habit, which is BE PROACTIVE – You’re In Charge. Translated into kid language means; I am a responsible person and take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. Please encourage your child child to take responsibility for their choices and actions. When he/she encounters a choice that is not working for him/her ask; “What do you think you need to do differently to fix this problem?” By remaining calm and commenting, “I have faith in your ability to solve this problem,” you are communicating to your child that he/she can solve problems successfully. Self confidence comes from overcoming obstacles in a positive way. When your child makes good choices let him/her know how proud you are of his/her ability as a great problem solver.
