Has your grade student come home talking about their third carnival? Don’t worry! It’s not another date to put on your activity schedule, third grade students are working on an “authentic” math project. They are applying what they have been learning about graphs and data to organize a carnival of their own design.
Authentic math practice is one of several teaching methods that third grade teachers are learning about, in partnership with the University of Iowa Math grant. Using this method helps
students not only see where math is used in the real world, it also helps foster perseverance as they work to interpret and apply math concepts.
Ask your child today about their carnival!
