In math we are using math manipulatives and conducting number talks. The students are gaining a deeper understanding of numbers and place value. We are focusing more on a student’s process to solve a problem rather than solely focusing on the answer. This helps students gain confidence and feel more comfortable with sharing their thoughts about other students’ ideas and to share their own ideas. By allowing students to share different ways to solve problems, students understand that we all learn in different ways. This has been a professionally amazing experience, and has taught me the importance of student-led discussions. It is very exhilarating to observe students become excited to learn and be highly engaged in our math discussions!
