Students have been engaged in reader’s theatre, which can be best described as a play read aloud. This fun activity helps students improve their reading fluency through repeated exposure to text. As students practice with text, they add expression to their reading, and this helps the reader and listener to gain a deeper understanding about the character and the story.
Reader’s theatre are not only fun for the student, but increases students’ reading confidence, develops critical readers and thinkers, and require that the reader to explore the character’s ’s feelings, as they attempt to demonstrate the character’s feelings through their reading. Students greatly enjoy reading different character parts and challenge themselves to develop the best voice for a character.
