Phonemes, Graphemes, Syllables and More

2016-2017-sept-006Van Allen Second graders are hard at work using HD Word Reading this year. The students are able to understand the parts of words and the sounds that they make. Using our kits from Really Great Reading, each child is able to make new words with grapheme tiles. So far this year the students have learned about digraphs, tri-graphs, 2 sound blends, 3 sound blends, chunks and closed syllables. This week they learned how to read really big words by breaking apart each syllable and blending the parts of the word.   Understanding how words are made up and taken apart will help the students in their daily reading both at home and at school.
