Not Your Same Old Math!

Have you noticed your child’s math lately? It doesn’t look like it used to it, does it? Third-grade students have been building number sense to help them learn basic facts. We have been making our multiplication tables through skip counting (2,4,6,8,10). Students notice screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-8-53-23-amfact families and patterns instead of memorizing them in isolation. After practicing patterns, we use the chart to solve equations. Students say the problem aloud while simultaneously finding the answer with their fingers. This uses more senses to help link the information in their mind through multiple brain pathways.
