Greetings Friends, Families, and Students of Van Allen! One of the resources we use in some of the Special Education pull-out classes is News-2-You! This resource provides our students with News and Information about current events.
A few weeks ago the students were learning about the Winter Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin China. The kids were intrigued by the size and scope of the ice and snow sculptures at the festival.
The News comes to us in four levels so that the students can each access it at their level. The lowest two levels include picture support with the words and the higher two levels switch the short paragraphs with increasingly harder language to stretch the students learning level as well as including additional details about the news.
The News also includes a recipe each week which our three Level III students prepare each Friday during cooking class as they work on functional skills. That week was Ice Sculpture Treat which was a jello dessert cut out. They had so much fun measuring and cutting out the shapes.
This week they are reading about a Driver-Less Car! Wow!
