Students will experience the story, The Worst Day of My Life Ever by Julia Cook as will use to the Zones of Regulations to identify the zone the characters are in at various points in the story. Students will also learn the steps to listen appropriately and following instructions. A good reminder for myself as well.
Next week the younger students will be introduced to the Zones of Regulation. All zones are important, yet the Green Zone is where we make our best choices. The students will learn that when they stop to identify the ZONE that they are in, they are able to use the appropriate strategy to get back to THE GREEN ZONE and make their best choices. As we focused last class on finding the HERO WITHIN, HEROS MAKE CHOICES IN THE GREEN ZONE! Heh, Heh, Heh! Please notice the attached chart as it has the various zones.
BLUE ZONE STRATEGY – Stretch to get oxygen to the brain, so you can think.
GREEN ZONE STRATEGY – Take a sip of water, to keep the brain hydrated so you can continue to make GREAT CHOICES. This is our best thinking zone! Did you know that your brain needs a sip of water every ten minutes to maintain optimal learning??
YELLOW ZONE STRATEGY – We are in the caution zone as we can easily work our way back to the GREEN ZONE or we can easily work to the RED ZONE WHERE WE ARE OUT OF CONTROL. When in this zone, take long slow deep breaths, so that we get oxygen to the brain and we can think. In this zone kids are starting to lose control either they are getting really silly or starting to get angy/frustrated.
RED ZONE STRATEGY – This is when we are OUT OF CONTROL either super silly or super angry. If someone yells or calls names when angry, they are out of control. Also if someone hits, puts another individual down, kicks or pushes deliberately they are out of control. Our strategy here is a TIME OUT to rethink our zone and strategy.
